Loading... Please wait...Not long after I started selling the Bumfortable Kayak Seat in the USA, it was adpated to canoes buy Fritz Hanson out of Milwaukee. Fritz made a carbon fiber mounting plate, trimmed down the sides of the Bumfortable and Velco attached the seat.
It is a great bit of innovation. Testing the arrangement has revealed that the addition of the Bumfortable has made a big difference to comfort and control of the canoe. The seat gives additional hip support allowing greater control of the canoe. It may lift the seat a little which will alter the feel of the canoe. Rails may beed to be lowered to preserve the existing center of gravity.
It has been found though that the carbon fiber seat pan is too hard and stiff. OthersThe plates are now made from fiberglass that give a little flex and forgiveness.

Fitting a Bumfortable to a canoe
How you fit the Bumfortable into your canoe is your personal choice of method and what your preferences are. This method here I call the Julia Method after the lady that had a flash of blindly obvious and said, "why not turn the existing seat upside down and use the rails as they are?", just before I was about to butcher her seat with a saw!
