Now you can enjoy a day's paddle without having to worry about stopping to dump water. These pumps are robust and use the natural action of your legs when you paddle correctly. With each stroke you should be pushing with leg on the same side as the stroke pull phase. This pressure is used to operate diaphragm, that in turn is used to pump water out of the kayak. Easy to install and maintain these pumps have proven to be reliable and durable. The pickup tube is mounted along the centreline of the bilge and the outlet is via a small flange set into the side of the hull. The bellow is mounted to the foot plate or other cross brace that the foot can reach to push on. The pump is self priming and has remarkable pick up. The inlet tube is designed so that it will pick up right off the bilge floor. I would recommend not putting the exit port anywhere there is a chance it will spray up into your face, as the pump can develop considerable pressure. Flow Rates Tests: I tested the flow from the short bellow pump, using my certifed bath tub test facility. Using easy pump pressure 14 pumps removed 0.5 litres (0.13 US gal) Using firm pump pressure 9 pumps removed 0.5 litres (0.13 US gal) Pumping at an average rate for 1 minute, the pump removed 3.25 litres (0.86 US gal) The instructions note that the bellow is not meant to fill with water during normal operation but water did flow up the line to the bellow, but this did not alter the operation of the pump at all. It was easy to pull apart and drain out.
